NFT Kids Art
There has undoubtedly been a surge in what has been referred to as NFT (Non-Fungible Token) ‘kids art’ in recent times. In fact, a number of articles in the media have referenced the fact that NFT kids art is booming. One of the reasons behind this boom is that more and more children are minting NFTs on online NFT marketplaces. In fact, some children have even been labelled ‘NFT prodigies’, because they have managed to successfully monetise their artistic abilities.
For instance, ‘Sevi’, a 9-year-old autistic prodigy from the Philippines was referred to as a “Baby Banksy”, owing to his exceptional artistic skills that allowed him to both sell art NFTs online, and participate in a number of NFT art exhibitions (NFTs 2021). Another NFT kids artist, ‘Emilio Barrera’, started selling his NFT artworks at the age of 6, and he has now managed to sell several thousand dollars’ worth of his artworks (see below). He even donates 10% of the proceeds to the homeless shelter ‘Poverello House’.

‘Benyamin Ahmed’ (@ObiWanBenoni) is an NFT generative artist, who is most famous for coding an NFT art collection called ‘Weird Whales’ which has generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales to date. The Weird Wales collection can be viewed on the NFT marketplace ‘OpenSea’, and currently offers 3,400 NFT artworks for sale.

‘Nyla Hayes’ started drawing from the age of 4, and she started creating digital art on the smartphone that her parents bought for her aged 9. At the age of 12, she created the ‘Long Neckie Ladies’, an NFT art collection featuring a diverse range of women with elongated necks. Nyla’s NFT artworks are now collectively valued at around $3.4 million, she has sold a number of portraits at high prices and has generated close to $7 million in sales of her NFT artworks to date (Art Law & More 2022). In 2021, she was named as Emerging Artist of the year by NFL.NYC, and she was also named as the first artist in residence for Time Magazine’s Web3 and NFT initiative called ‘TIMEPieces’.

It is not only the large number of new and talented NFT kids artists that have brought about the latest boom in NFT kids art, it is also the large number of NFT kids art platforms and galleries, and a range of other institutions that have increasingly sought to promote new kids NFT art projects. For example, in 2021 the NFT marketplace ‘Nifty Gateway’ launched an NFT drop entitled ‘Nifty Next Generation’, which featured the work of young NFT artists ‘Carlos Gomez’ (see below) and ‘Justin Bodnar’ (jstngraphics.com) (Art Law & More 2022).

As can be seen, the NFT artworks of these two artists are distinctly different in nature. These NFT artworks, along with those of other NFT kids artists such as Benyamin Ahmed and Nyla Hayes, highlight the diverse range of potential that NFT kids art is showing today.
